Encounter Transformation

At Albuquerque YAV, we long for young adults to encounter transformation. Whether it is understanding local cultural and racial history, learning from local nonprofits rooted in the community, or reflecting on their own personal journey of growth, we trust that an ABQYAV will encounter transformation, both in the place they serve, and in themselves.

The ABQ Young Adult Volunteer program gives young adults the opportunity to experience New Mexico’s historic convergence of Native American, Hispanic and Anglo communities. Living in Albuquerque, YAVs encounter the beauty of the high desert and Sandia Mountains juxtaposed with the high levels of poverty and daily challenges faced by many New Mexicans. Volunteers work with a variety of local nonprofit organizations engaged in education, outreach and social justice, while also learning about and building relationships with diverse communities across New Mexico.

ABQYAV is a site of the Young Adult Volunteer Program of the PC (USA) and a partner program of Southwest Emergent Response Volunteers (SWERV).
Albuquerque, New Mexico, sits on Tiwa land, the ancestral home of numerous Pueblo peoples. As visitors in this space, we give gratitude for the stewardship of those native people who have been here since time immemorial. As a faith-based program, we acknowledge our own complicity in settler colonialism and the sin of the Doctrine of Discovery, and commit ourselves to work against those systems in the ongoing pursuit of justice.
